Okay, here is my blog post about remaking a Prada Tessuto Nylon Backpack:
So, I saw this Prada Tessuto Nylon Backpack at their official flagship store the other day, and I was like, “I gotta have it!” But then I saw the price tag, and I was like, “Maybe not.” It’s made of nylon, which has been Prada’s thing since the ’80s. It’s cool and all, with that whole “utilitarian luxury” vibe, but I figured I could try to make one myself. Plus, the original one uses recycled nylon, and I’m all about that eco-friendly life.
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some recycled nylon. I did some digging and found a few places online that sell it. I ordered a bunch, enough to mess up a few times, you know? Gotta have a backup plan.
Next, I studied the design of the bag. I took a ton of screenshots from the Prada website, paying close attention to the details – the straps, the buckles, the stitching, all that jazz. I even made a rough sketch of the bag and broke it down into different parts.
- Main Body: This is the biggest part, obviously. It’s basically a big rectangle with a flap.
- Front Pocket: A smaller rectangle, but with a zipper.
- Side Pockets: Two more small rectangles, also with zippers. I think.
- Straps: Long strips of nylon, with some padding for comfort.
- Buckles and Zippers: Gotta get those shiny bits to make it look legit.
Once I had the nylon and a basic plan, I started cutting. Let me tell you, cutting fabric is not as easy as it looks. It’s slippery, and if you mess up, there’s no undo button. But after a few tries (and a few curse words), I managed to cut out all the pieces I needed.
Then came the sewing. Now, I’m no expert seamstress, but I know my way around a sewing machine. I started with the smaller pieces, like the pockets. Sewed the zippers on, attached them to the main body. It was slow going, but I was making progress.
The straps were a bit tricky. I wanted them to be sturdy but also comfortable. So I used some extra nylon to make padding and sewed it into the straps. It took a while, but I think I nailed it.
Finally, I sewed everything together. This was the most nerve-wracking part. One wrong move and the whole thing could fall apart. But I took my time, double-checked every stitch, and eventually, it all came together.
The Result?
It’s not perfect, of course. It doesn’t have that Prada logo, and the stitching is probably not as neat as the original. But you know what? It’s my Prada bag, and I made it with my own two hands. And it’s made with recycled materials. It’s a pretty decent backpack, and I’m kinda proud of it. I use it all the time now! Although I might try to find a fake Prada logo and sew it on somewhere, haha.
