Yesterday, I received a request for remaking the PRADA Cahier Bag, which got me excited because it’s one of my favorite designs. I immediately got to work, diving straight into the project.
First, I gathered all the necessary materials. I chose a high-quality calf leather, just like the original, because it picks up color beautifully and feels incredibly soft. I also made sure to get the right antiqued gold-tone hardware. This hardware is crucial because it mimics the bindings on old books, giving the bag its unique, vintage look.
With the materials ready, I started by carefully studying the iconic shape of the Cahier Bag. It’s inspired by the profile of a notebook, which is such a cool concept. I sketched out the design multiple times to make sure I had all the dimensions and proportions right. Then, I cut the leather according to the pattern I had created. This was a delicate process because any mistake here could ruin the whole project.
Next, I focused on the stitching. The client wanted it in white with contrasting black stitching, a combination that really makes the bag pop. I practiced the stitching on some scrap leather first to ensure it was perfect. Precision is key here—each stitch needed to be even and secure to hold the bag together and look good.
After the stitching was done, I assembled the bag. This involved attaching the leather pieces together and adding the hardware. I took my time with this step, double-checking everything to make sure it was aligned correctly and securely fastened. The antiqued gold-tone hardware really brought the whole design together, giving it that classic, timeless feel.
