Alright, so I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and let me tell you, this Rolex GMT-Master II with the “Root Beer” bezel, it’s a real head-turner. I’m not one for flashy stuff usually, but this one? It kinda grows on you. You know, Rolex, they’re not exactly known for being wild and out there. They’re more about that classic, never-goes-out-of-style vibe. But this “Root Beer” thing, it’s like they decided to let their hair down a little. It’s different, you know? Not like all their other stuff.
So, I got my hands on one of these, not a real one, obviously – I’m not made of money! It’s a decent copy, pretty close to the real deal, at least from a distance. The first thing I did was swap out the band. The one it came with was okay, but I wanted something a bit more “me.”
Next, I started playing around with the bezel. This is where the “Root Beer” name comes in. It’s half brown, half black, and it just looks cool, I dunno how else to put it. This is one of those rare times when Rolex really tried something different. On this one they even put the crown on the left side of the case, which is kinda cool if you’re a lefty, I guess.
I spent a good chunk of time just fiddling with it, turning the bezel, setting the time, that kind of thing. The crown is super easy to operate, especially with my left hand. The movement’s pretty smooth, not as smooth as the real thing, I’m sure, but hey, for a copy, it’s not bad at all.
I also did a bit of digging online, reading reviews and stuff. I even checked out some reviews on a brand called Stuhrling, just to see what other people were saying about similar watches. It’s always good to get a second opinion, right? Learned that the newer models have this engraving on them, you know, “ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX” around the inside edge, with a serial number down at the bottom. Mine doesn’t have that, which, honestly, is a bit of a bummer. But, what can you do?
My Overall Thoughts:
Honestly, for a copy, this thing is pretty solid. It feels good on the wrist, it looks the part, and it’s definitely a conversation starter. Would I love to have the real deal? Sure, who wouldn’t? But for now, this one does the trick. It’s a fun little piece to add to the collection, and it satisfies that itch for something a little different, a little outside of the usual Rolex box.
