Alright, let’s talk about this bag, the Prada Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag. I’ve had my eye on this beauty for ages, and let me tell you, it’s a classic. I mean, it’s from the mid-90s, which is totally vintage now, right?
So, I started by searching online, like we all do. I read a bunch of stuff, found out it was originally in Prada’s FW95 collection, which was designed by Miuccia Prada. She’s been with the company since the 70s, and this bag is one of her creations. It’s really not my first time to do a remake like this.
I decided I had to have it, but not the original one. I wanted to remake it by myself. I wanted that satisfaction, you know? So, I went to work.
First, I needed to figure out the materials. This bag’s got that recycled nylon, which is awesome, and gold-tone hardware, which looked pretty easy to find. It’s got this enamel triangle logo, which is like, the Prada signature. And it zips up at the top, which is practical. Then there are these two shoulder straps, they’re leather and chain-link, and a leather tag. I made a list:
- Recycled Nylon Fabric: Found some that looked like a good match. It was a navy blue color and had a similar texture.
- Gold-tone Hardware: Zipper, chain links, and other bits. Those were easy enough to order.
- Enamel Triangle Logo: This was the trickiest part. I ended up finding a similar one and modifying it a little bit. I’m not a pro, okay? But it looked pretty decent in the end.
- Leather: For the tag and part of the straps. Got some navy blue leather scraps that worked perfectly.
Next, I got down to the actual making. I started by cutting out the nylon according to the measurements I’d figured out from looking at pictures online. Then, I sewed the pieces together. I’m not gonna lie, it was a bit of a challenge, especially getting the corners right. But I took my time, watched some videos, and eventually, it started to look like a bag!
Then came the hardware. I attached the zipper, which was surprisingly satisfying. Then, I made the chain-link and leather straps. I found some gold-tone chains at a local store and wove the leather through them. It actually looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.
Finally, I added the logo and the leather tag. These were the finishing touches that really brought the whole thing together. It was pretty cool to see it all come together.
After a lot of hours of work, my Prada Re-Edition 1995 was finished! It looked so good. It wasn’t perfect, of course. There were a few little things here and there that weren’t exactly like the original. But overall, I was super happy with how it turned out.
Learned a lot from this project
This whole process was a real learning experience. It was challenging, but it was also really rewarding. I’m definitely going to try remaking more bags in the future. Maybe I’ll even start a little side hustle. Who knows?
