I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. So, the other day, I got this crazy idea to try and remake a Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100G-010. Yeah, I know, it sounds nuts, but hear me out.
First things first, I spent hours, and I mean hours, staring at pictures of this beauty online. I checked out every site I could find, just trying to get a good look at it. Humbertown Jewellers, Chrono24, Gotham Trading NY – you name it, I was there, analyzing every little detail.
After I felt like I knew the watch inside and out from the pictures, I started digging into what makes it tick, literally. Turns out, it’s a manually-winding mechanical watch. The original has an 18k white gold case, about 31mm by 34.8mm, with these shiny baguette diamonds all around the bezel and lugs. It looks pretty expensive, right?
Then came the hard part: trying to find the parts. This was not easy. I managed to find a similar-looking case, but it wasn’t exactly the same, but hey, I was determined to do it. I found some white gold material, but diamonds? That was hard. I used some shiny stones instead, but they were not real diamonds and not real baguette.
Putting it all together was like a puzzle. I spent days in my little workshop, trying to fit everything together. I was so into it, not giving up, making sure every part was in its place. I managed to do it and the results are ok.
- First of all, I checked a lot of websites to see the pictures.
- Then, I searched for the right materials, I found a white gold case, but used some shiny stones instead of diamonds.
- At last, I spent several days assembling all the parts.
In the end, did I make a perfect replica of the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7042/100G-010? Nope, not really. But did I have a blast trying? Absolutely! And you know what? My version’s got its own charm. It’s not about making an exact copy; it’s about the process, the challenge, and the fun of creating something with your own hands.
This whole project taught me a lot about watches, about craftsmanship, and about myself. Would I do it again? Maybe. It’s a lot of work, but hey, who knows what crazy idea I’ll get next? Stay tuned, folks, because my watch adventures are far from over!
