Okay, so I recently got into this whole watch remake thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I decided to tackle the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R, the original order one. Yeah, it’s a pretty ambitious project, I know.
First off, I started by gathering all the information I could find. I looked at tons of pictures, read articles, and watched videos. This watch, with its thin case built on the Golden Ratio, is just beautiful. I was amazed by the design principle behind it. And the new metal bracelet, composed of links set in fine rows, reminded me of those old-school chain bracelets, but way more refined. It is crafted from 18k rose gold, what a masterpiece.
Then came the hard part – actually making the thing. I needed to get my hands on some materials, and I started with the rose gold. This was no easy feat, mind you. Rose gold is not easy to purchase. After that, I carefully started to shape the case. It was a long and meticulous process. I spent hours just trying to get the proportions right. Patek Philippe is known for its luxury, so I had to make sure every detail was perfect.
- Sourcing the materials: I spent days trying to find the right kind of rose gold, and it wasn’t cheap.
- Shaping the case: This took forever. I had to make sure the proportions were just right to reflect that Golden Ratio thing.
- Creating the dial: The ebony black sunburst dial was particularly challenging. I had to get that subtle gradient just right.
- Making the bracelet: This was probably the hardest part. Each link had to be perfectly shaped and assembled.
After many attempts and a lot of failures, I started to see something resembling the Golden Ellipse. I remember one time I messed up the case so badly I had to start over. It felt like when I was modding in GTA V. You know, you spend hours editing files, and one wrong move, and bam, you have to start all over again. GTA V Remake is not just a graphic mod, it’s more than that. This experience is similar.
The Final Touches
Finally, I got to the assembly stage. Putting it all together was nerve-wracking. I felt like I was handling a real Patek Philippe. With the launch of the Golden Ellipse Ref. 5738/1R-001 in 2024, Patek Philippe embraced one of the defining characteristics of earlier references in the collection. It’s a testament to the art of watchmaking. This made my work more meaningful.
In the end, my remake wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty damn proud of it. It captured the elegance and sophistication of the original, at least in my opinion. This whole experience taught me a lot about patience and precision. It’s one thing to admire these watches, but it’s a whole other thing to try and recreate one. I think I’ll stick to admiring them from afar for now, but who knows, maybe I’ll try another one someday.
