Buying a CopyOMEGA Ω X-33 Marstimer: Is It Worth It? Heres What You Need to Know

So, I finally pulled the trigger and bought myself that OMEGA X-33 Marstimer I’ve been eyeing. Let me tell you, the whole process was quite an adventure.

I first heard about this Marstimer thing a while back. I’m a big fan of the Moonwatch, you know, the classic one that went to the moon and all that. That watch is legendary. Anyway, I was browsing and came across this X-33 Marstimer. It looked pretty cool, and the whole Mars thing caught my attention.

I started digging around, reading about it. Found out it uses the calibre 5619, which is a quartz movement. I know, I know, some of you purists might scoff at quartz, but this one is thermo-compensated, which means it’s super accurate. Plus, it’s got a battery that lasts a whole 24 months. That’s pretty sweet.

The design was a big draw for me. It’s a bit bigger than the older X-33 models, which I like. I tried on the Gen 2 before, and it felt pretty good on my wrist. The Marstimer is similar, just a tad larger. And the dial, man, it’s got all sorts of functions. I haven’t even figured them all out yet. I saw these on the Speedmaster Instruments, which are cool.

Then came the decision to actually buy it. I went back and forth for a while. It’s not exactly cheap, you know? But I kept coming back to it. I guess you could say I was obsessed. I really love the Moonwatch and have been wearing it for my NASA’s Gemini 4 mission spacewalk. Eventually, I said, “Screw it, I’m doing it.”

I found a good deal and placed the order. The waiting was the hardest part! Every day, I’d check the tracking, hoping it would magically arrive sooner. Finally, the day came. I ripped open the box like a kid on Christmas morning. And there it was, in all its glory.

Here’s what I did after unboxing:

  • Tried it on immediately: Fit like a glove. Seriously. It’s comfortable, despite its size.
  • Started playing with the functions: There’s a lot going on there. I managed to set the time and date, but I’m still figuring out the rest.
  • Admired it: I just kept looking at it. It’s a beautiful watch.
  • Took some pictures: Gotta show it off on Instagram, right?

So, that’s my story. I’m now the proud owner of an OMEGA X-33 Marstimer. I’ll probably do a more in-depth review later once I’ve had more time with it. But for now, I’m just enjoying it.

Is it worth it?

For me, absolutely. It’s a unique watch with a cool story, and it’s just fun to wear. If you’re a fan of the Speedmaster line or just into interesting watches in general, I’d say check it out. You might just fall in love like I did.
