Okay, so a few months back, I got this wild idea to try and make a super close copy of the Rolex GMT-Master II, you know, the fancy one they sell at the official stores. It all started when I was browsing online and stumbled upon some forums where people were discussing how to tell real Rolexes from the fakes. I got hooked. I mean, who wouldn’t want a Rolex, right?
I started digging into it. The first thing I learned was about the order of the hands on the watch face. Apparently, on a real GMT-Master II, the hour hand is closest to the dial, then the 24-hour GMT hand, and the minute hand is on top. I spent hours looking at pictures online, trying to get a good look at this. It’s kinda crazy how much detail goes into these watches.
Then came the fun part – trying to find parts that looked like the real deal. I found a few websites that sell watch parts, but man, it was tough. You wouldn’t believe how many different kinds of hands there are. I ordered a bunch, and when they arrived, it was like Christmas. I laid them all out and started comparing them to the pictures I had.
Trial and Error
- First Attempt: Total fail. The hands were all wrong, and the watch face I got was way off.
- Second Attempt: Closer, but the GMT hand was too long. It looked ridiculous.
- Third Attempt: Almost there! I found a seller who had a GMT hand that was just the right length.
After mixing and matching parts from different orders, I finally had something that looked pretty good. I spent a whole weekend putting it together, my hands were shaking the whole time because I was afraid to mess it up. But eventually, I got it. I stepped back, looked at it, and, dang, it looked just like the pictures of the real thing!
I’ve been wearing it around for a while now, and nobody’s been able to tell the difference. It’s kinda funny, to be honest. I even had a friend who’s a bit of a watch snob examine it, and he was fooled. We had a good laugh about it later.
This whole thing was a wild ride. I never thought I’d get this into watches, but it’s been a blast. Plus, I got a pretty sweet-looking watch out of it, even if it’s not the real thing. I even tried to get my hands on a left-handed version one, but that was too hard. I searched up and down about “High Imitation Rolex GMT-Master II Left-Handed Version” and “Avoid Scams and Find Top Quality” but gave up eventually. I’m thinking about trying to copy another model, maybe one of those “Root Beer Bezel” ones. I once saw an article talking about how to spot the difference between the fake and the real, I should read that again. Anyway, if you’re thinking about doing something like this, go for it! Just be prepared to spend some time and money, and don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t work out the first time.
