Okay, so I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and I wanted to share my experience trying to find a good deal on a Rolex GMT-Master II. These things are crazy expensive, so I was looking for something that looked the part without costing an arm and a leg.
First, I started looking at some other brands that are a bit more affordable. I checked out the Tudor Black Bay GMT and the Tissot Seastar 1000 GMT. The first thing I did was try to figure out how to spot a fake. I mean, I didn’t want to get ripped off. I learned that you should check for a unique serial number on the case and examine the bezel’s rotation and color.
I found a replica of the Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 116710, the one with the black dial. To see if it was any good, I started by checking out the dial and the markers. Then I took a close look at the bezel, the hands, and even how heavy the watch felt.
- First up? I looked at the serial number – it was there, etched into the case, just like the real deal.
- Next, I checked the bezel. It rotated, but not as smoothly as I expected. Also, the colors seemed a bit off.
- The hands were pretty close, but the magnifying part over the date was not very clear.
- The weight was okay, it felt substantial enough, but not quite as hefty as a real Rolex is supposed to be.
Conclusion
In the end, I got a really good look at how these replicas are made and what to look for. It was a fun experiment, but I’m still on the hunt for that perfect watch. I will probably still consider some of those other brands like Tudor or Tissot. Who knows, maybe I’ll even save up enough for a real Rolex one day! Or maybe not. We’ll see!
