Okay, so I wanted to try my hand at recreating that super trendy PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Mini-Bag. It’s, like, everywhere, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
First, I start looking around for the real deal, just to get a good look at it. You see these bags online going for, like, two grand! I find them on all the usual sites like eBay and a bunch of those fancy online stores, but they are very expensive. I also check out this place called Vestiaire Collective, where they sell used designer stuff. Still pricey, though.
Next, I gotta figure out what this bag is even made of. Turns out, it’s this “recycled nylon” thing, which I guess is good for the planet. It’s got this shiny enamel triangle logo and a gold chain, which is pretty snazzy. I read somewhere that it has an adjustable shoulder strap and a zipper, and the inside has a pocket with a zipper too. I look at a few different bags online, trying to figure out all the details. Like, it’s gotta be a rectangle with rounded corners, and it says “Prada Milano” on it, sometimes “Made in Italy” but sometimes also “Made in China”.
After I have a good idea of what I am trying to make, I grab some nylon fabric I have lying around. Not sure if it’s “recycled,” but it’s close enough. Then I get to cutting and sewing, trying to get that rectangular shape with the rounded corners. I mess up a few times, but eventually, I get something that looks pretty close. And I made sure it has a main compartment and an internal zip-fastening pocket.
The hardest part was probably the logo. I don’t have any fancy enamel stuff, so I use a piece of an old metal button and paint it black. It does not look exactly like the real one, but from far away, you can barely tell the difference. I stick it on with some strong glue. After that, I find an old gold chain from a broken necklace and attach it as the strap. I even add a little leather tag, just like the real deal. It turns out that this bag is all the rage, and people are searching for it like crazy. I see that the most expensive shoulder bag on Prada is over 5,000 bucks! While a similar one in Louis Vuitton is even more expensive.
In the end, my version of the bag is not perfect, but it is pretty darn good for a DIY project. It is not as shiny as the real one, and the chain is a bit shorter, but it has got the same basic vibe. Plus, I did not have to spend thousands of dollars, which is a major win in my book.
- Gathered intel: Scoured the internet for pictures and info about the real bag.
- Found materials: Used some nylon fabric, an old button, glue, and a broken necklace chain.
- Cut and sewed: Made the bag’s body, trying to match the shape and size.
- Made a makeshift logo: Painted a metal button and glued it on.
- Added the chain: Attached the old necklace chain as the strap.
- Admired my work: Stepped back and appreciated my budget-friendly creation.
Here’s a little recap of what I did:
So, yeah, that is how I spent my weekend. It was a fun little challenge, and now I have a kinda-sorta PRADA bag without breaking the bank. Maybe I will try to remake another designer bag next time. Who knows?
