So, I finally did it. I got myself a CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. You know, the one with the see-through back. I’d been thinking about this watch for a long time. My buddy got one a while back, and I just loved the way it looked, and especially that clear back. Man, that is something else.
First off, I had to find a place that even sold these things. Not every store carries the open case-back version. You gotta go to one of them specialty stores, you know the type, fancy displays and whatnot. After stopping by a few places, I finally found one that had it. And let me tell you, seeing it in person is way different than the pictures. These young folks, they like to show these off, that’s for sure.
This particular model, it’s got that classic Moonwatch style, but with a twist. Instead of the usual solid back, it’s got this clear window. They call it an “open case back.” You can see all the little gears and springs and stuff moving around in there. It’s pretty mesmerizing, I gotta say. It’s like a tiny little city working away in there. They say that this Copy one is different from the original one because it’s got a bold white text and some other things, but I couldn’t tell the difference, to be honest.
Now, I’m not gonna lie, it was a bit of a splurge. But hey, you only live once, right? I figured I deserved a little something nice. And this watch, it just felt right. Holding it in my hand, winding it up, hearing that tick-tick-tick… it’s just a whole experience.
I wore it out to dinner the other night, and my buddy noticed it right away. He’s got the regular Moonwatch, the one with the solid back. He was pretty impressed with the open case back. We spent a good chunk of the evening just staring at the back of my watch. These youngins really are onto something.
Putting it on my wrist every morning, I can’t help but take a peek at the back. It is really cool to see how all the parts work together. I mean, I don’t understand half of what’s going on in there, but it’s still fascinating.
