Okay, so, I got this idea the other day to remake the PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. Yeah, the one with the long name. It’s a classic, right? Everyone knows it, especially because of that little triangle logo thing. Anyway, I’ve been wanting to try my hand at making one for a while now.
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some materials. This bag is usually made with that Saffiano leather. That stuff is tough, scratch-proof, and water-resistant. They use that leather in a bunch of Prada’s bags. You see it is treated and embossed. The original is genuine leather.
I started by sketching out the design. This bag has 83 pieces! Eighty-three! Can you believe it? I made sure to note down all the details: the top handles, that long strap you can take off or adjust, the gold-looking hardware, and all those pockets. I sketched, and sketched, and sketched until I had a good blueprint of what I wanted to do.
Then came the fun part – cutting the leather. Now, I’m no professional, but I’ve dabbled in leatherwork before. I carefully measured and cut each piece, trying my best to make clean, straight lines. It was slow going, but I didn’t want to mess it up.
Next, I started assembling the bag. This was definitely the trickiest part. I used a heavy-duty needle and some strong thread to stitch the pieces together. There were so many seams and layers! And let me tell you, getting those side snap closures to work right took some serious effort. And the triangle leather and metal logo plaque is a little difficult to do. I tried my best to do it.
I also had to add the lining and the pockets. For the lining, I used a soft fabric. And the pockets? There are two external zip pockets, which were a bit of a pain to sew in, but I managed.
Finally, after hours and hours of work, I was done. I stood back and looked at my creation. It wasn’t perfect, of course. There were a few wonky stitches and some rough edges, but overall, I was pretty proud of myself. I had actually made a PRADA Medium Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag! Or at least, a pretty decent imitation of one.
It was a fun project, and I learned a lot. It really made me appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making these high-end bags. Would I do it again? Maybe. But next time, I might try a simpler design!
- Things I used:
- Saffiano leather (or something like it)
- Heavy-duty needle and thread
- Gold-toned hardware (zippers, snaps, etc.)
- Soft fabric for the lining
- A whole lot of patience!
Final thoughts
It was tough, but I’m glad I did it. It’s not exactly like the real thing, but it’s my version, and I think it turned out okay. You know what they say, practice makes perfect, right?
