That Rolex, you know that watch, that high imitation Rolex Black Submariner. My grandson, he’s always talking about it. Says it’s the best. Best at what, I don’t know. He says it’s like the real thing, only cheaper. A lot cheaper. He keeps going on and on about this “Submariner” thing. I think that Rolex thing is just a showy watch. But who am I to say?
He showed me pictures on his phone. It’s black, that Rolex watch. Shiny black. Looks like them beetles we used to find in the fields. He says it’s good for diving. Diving! Who’s gonna dive with a fancy watch? We used to swim in the creek, never needed a watch for that. Times are different, I guess. Kids these days, they need all these gadgets.
He says you can get them at specialty stores. Specialty stores, what’s that? We used to just have the general store. They had everything there. Now they got stores just for watches? Seems silly to me. But he says these Rolex Black Submariner, you gotta get ’em at these special places.
They made that watch, that Rolex Submariner, a long time ago. Like, back when I was young. 1967 to 1975. That’s what my grandson told me, he is always reading these things. The caliber 1575, he said. Don’t mean much to me. Just sounds like a bunch of numbers. He keeps saying it’s “sought after.” Whatever that means. Guess folks like it a lot.

Don’t know about that. Just looks like a watch to me. But he says that Rolex thing, it’s the best. Says it tells the date, too. Big deal. We used to just look at the sun to know the time. Worked just fine. This Rolex watch, it’s a big thing now, I guess.
There are a lot of different kinds of this Rolex Submariner. He was showing me all these pictures. Too many, if you ask me. They all look the same, mostly. Black, shiny. Some have different colored… things… around the edge. He said, the combinations, the color combinations of that Rolex Submariner Date, include a black dial. Whatever that means.
He said when you’re thinking about a Rolex Submariner, there’s a lot to think about. But he just goes on about this imitation Rolex thing, I think he called it a replica or something, I don’t know. He keeps saying it’s like a super clone. He showed me on his phone, it’s called a super clone. He says, a super clone watch is just like the real thing, only cheaper, you know.
He says these new ones, these imitation watches, they’re hard to tell apart from the real ones. You need a trained eye, he says. Trained eye! I can spot a bad apple from a mile away. Don’t need no training for that. But these watches, he says they’re tricky. I guess that’s why they call it high imitation.
He said that Rolex Submariner, it was made for water. That’s why it is a “Submariner”. But he kept talking about some other water-resistant watch. Said the Submariner came from that one. Don’t know what he was on about, just sounds confusing.
He was talking about some rare ones, some reference numbers or something, 5517, 5513, something like that. He called it a double-reference. He said that makes this Military Submariner, some special kind of that Rolex, very valuable. Collectible, he said.
These young folks and their collectibles. We used to collect rocks when we were kids. Good, solid rocks. Didn’t cost a thing. Now they collect watches that cost more than a good cow.
My grandson, he says these high imitation Rolex watches, he calls ’em replica watches, or super clone watches. He says they are just as good. Says everyone’s wearing them. Says they are the smart thing to get. I don’t know. If you ask me, just get a regular watch that tells time. Don’t need all this fancy stuff.
But these specialty stores, they sell these imitation Rolexes, I guess. He showed me on his phone, there are a lot of them. He says you can find a high imitation Rolex Black Submariner specialty store and get one of these watches.
He’s been saving up, my grandson. Says he’s gonna get one of these Rolex watches. A Black Submariner. Says it’s the best deal. Says it’s just like the real thing. I guess if it makes him happy. These kids today. They’re always wanting something new and shiny. I just hope he doesn’t waste all his money on some fancy watch. He should be saving up for something important. Like a good pair of boots. Or a new plow.
